ABOUT JON

I was born and raised in Fairmont, Minnesota, before heading off to college. I first attended Grand View College, where I played baseball and graduated with a political science degree. After college, I continued to play baseball for many years around the area of District 21B but never really found my career until going back to school to get my teaching degree. Since achieving my teaching degree, I have spent the last 18 years teaching social studies and coaching baseball and football at St. James High School. While in St. James, I was blessed with a stepson and two daughters that keep me on my toes.

In 2022, I decided to run for St. James mayor, but not in the traditional way. When I observed a lack of leadership in the candidates, I decided to run as a write-in candidate. I have been so honored and humbled by the massive support I received in that election victory and also as the Mayor of St. James. Under my leadership, the city has started to see a new vision for our residents; specifically that all people, regardless of background or ethnicity, feel welcomed into our community.

I feel now is the time to lead other communities in southern Minnesota the same way I have in the classroom, on the field or in the city of St. James. I am excited to have the opportunity to help all residents of Minnesota House District 21B.
